I find that this system is very disturbing. They spend lots of money for the security system instead of creating a better education and living condition for the community. Why don't these people understand that poverty leads to higher criminal activity. Besides, I'm not really fond with the racial status of being white here. So i dont think the teens were drunk. Im a teen living in rural alaska and usually when i see open water I like to drive through with my snowmachine. haha call me crazy but its just a thing teens usually do. These two tho. Maybe they were water skipping or maybe there was a snowstorm. You seen how the river looked with just a little wind. That snow moves across the ice making a blanket, that still move over open water. There are 2 small towns near this open water on the Yukon River. St.Marys which is the population of about 500 & Pitkas Point a population about 150. These 2 towns are only couple miles from each other & this open water is in between them. The people of Pitkas Point have to travel to St.Marys for there grocery store. Every year there is open water on about the same spot with currents strong enough to pull you under even if you had a life vest on. I wish theyd build a fence every winter around it

No, there are no taxes in Anchorage. No sales tax and no state income tax. Only property tax. It is a beautiful place however it is not for all. The summers are wonderful but the winters are long. For that to work you have to enjoy some sort of winter activity... snowmachining, snowboarding, skiing or hockey hobbies are all a plus.

It is very important to understand foreign cultures when trying to deal with them effectively. Oh...and i forgot to say if you live in places where its cooler like more down STH...or even tassie then you should not have a problem keeping them cool in the kiddy pool xD but its up to you and wht ur needs are

You just need to keep them cool, Like a giant kiddy pool...they love to jump around in it(just place it in the shade) as for clipping, DONT, it is not the outter coat that is the matter its the under coat and if you are will to brush it at least 1 time per day (if not more) then you will have no problems. IMO clipping mals are unneasasary.

I have a 9 month old Mal. She is the smartest dog that I have ever dealt with. Potty training was quite easy but the term house breaking has another meaning. Just think of a 2 year old kid that can run 20mph! Boredom can cause some serious destruction. Mals are alot of fun to have around, particulary if you are the adventurous type. I haven't seen any of the aggression towards people or pets (we have a 9lb cat). They love to talk and will learn your habits and adjust accordingly.

Ah a Giant Malamute. They are usually considered separate from the traditional malamute, but if I was to get a malamute it would be the giant ones. Mainly because one of my main interests in this breed is that it looks a lot like the gray wolf, where the domestic dog came from. They look very wolf like especially the bigger ones.

@AllAlaskan907 Well Patagonia in South of Argentina where I am from, it is pretty much the same in scenery especially by the Andes! and I have been in Finland too and it is pretty similar too ... but now i live in sunny Miami Beach :) i am used to the hot weather .... but would love to visit Alaska soon! .. there are pretty much many amazing places in the world like Iguazu falls, in Argentina & Brazil 2- Victoria Falls in Tanzania 3- Salt flats desert in Bolivia and north of Argentina

Alaska is an incredible place. Just returned to Florida and from the moment I got off the plane was thinking about when I could return. Florida = flat, Flat = boring. Seriously though, every time I stepped outdoors, there was something in sight to take one's breath away. I enjoyed the people, very friendly and funny. The extremes in daylight & dark can be easily overcome. The winters, well, that takes some getting used to but it all comes down to what you want from the place in which you live.

Are you planning to go to UAA? Cause I'm a freshman at UAA. I was born and raised here. Yes, dark, freezing winters. Lonely depends on whether or not you have family and friends I guess. I mean, everyone doesn't just suddenly become lonely because it's winter. I personally like winter the best. The summers are what I don't like. yup, you get used to the cold tho. lonely? ehhh i guess if u have no family here. dark? yes. but its more than just tht, alaska [for me atleast] is just an unhappy place. there rlly is NOTHING to do here. you have to have bookoo money to be entertained, and even then ur options are very great...for example things ppl do on the weekend here: watch a movie, shop, take a walk. and thts about it, and notice 2 of the 3 options require money =/ juss sayin

Most have the same old sterio type crap about Alaska,Igloo's cold all yr,etc... If you all down south only realized how it really is up here! My husband and I live in Alaska, and we've had bears in our yard, in the beds of our trucks, and even up on our deck. But, if we ever had one get into our truck like that, I would FREAK out!!! LOL! I DO love them though! They are such awesome creatures. Sometimes they almost seem human, when you see all of the things they do. We had one come up on our deck one time. My husband knocked on our kitchen window to get it's attention, and it stood straight up and looked in at us. Great job on video!

i was watching 'man vs wild with Bear Grylls the other day as he made his way through alaska and he said that black bears attack and kill more people each year than grizzly bears. they are also exceptionally good trackers. for some reason, though i would never say i thought back bears were benign, i didn't think think they were so...dangerous.

A bear's sense of smell is 7 times better than that of a blood hound. I take food related items of my car in bear country, down to chapstick, sunscreen, gum wrappers, etc. Everything goes in the bear locker at night or if the car is left unattended during the day. Once in a parking lot in Yosemite valley, a friend had a door peeled down on his Honda Accord and back seat ripped out. The bear smelled the cooler in the trunk, which was empty but had a lingering smell of food.

There was a tiny bag of goldfish in our car. We've been living in Alaska for 15 years, its not like we don't know what the heck is going on. "Laying out the welcome mat" would include putting your garbage out the night before. Thats something that is COMMONLY done left and right. Leaving a bag of gold fish (goldfish? They're crackers! Its not like its a big stinky steak or smelly McDonalds trash!) and TWO windows open is quite low on the "lay out the welcome mat" list.
