I can't understand how you got the clock speeds to 850 MHz and 1200 MHz. I got a similar card (Sapphire 5850 Vapor-X 1GB GDDR5) but when I tried to overclock it, using the ATI overdrive utility, I only got 765 MHz for the core and 1050 MHz for the memory. Did you use some other kind of overclockingfeature and did you increase the voltage?

@BKsMassive Yeah right. The Toxic model is pretty much useless unless you plan on gaming at like 2560x1600. Just because it has an extra gig of memory does not make it faster, or even remotely able to "wipe the floor" with the Diamond model. That extra gig of memory will really only help in a multi-monitor setup at ultra high resolutions. For people gaming at 1920x1080 or lower, which is a vast majority, they should stick with 1 GB

Was the 850 MHz clock and 1200 MHz memory the absolute max you could push the card to? I'm thinking about using this card in my summer build and would like to know if the overclock you achieved is typical or if it was the maximum overclock for your particular card. I know every card overclocks differently but it would be nice to be able to mirror the results you got. Also, I'm new to overclocking. Was the voltage increase relatively large or small?

Having the Fan at 100% constant is overkill, too loud and also wears down the fan. The temps stay well within limits and not high at 45%, and its not as loud.

The 5850 is a powerhouse. It can even match against the GTX 470-80, Nvidia's most powerful GPUs. GTX 480 only has higher memory bandwidth and pixel fill but the HD 5850 has higher core/memory clock, shader/texture operations. And ATI is ahead with DX11 support. The price is also reasonable, and it only uses 151 watts max. While the GTS250 alone is 150w max. HD 5870 and 5970 = insanity.

@putadelsol From those too, you should definitely get the HD5830 if you get it for a good price. Those 5830's tend to be a bit over priced for the performance they are giving though. But against the 4870, it's the better choice. It runs a lot cooler and has better performance. Tell me the models (and their price) you've been looking at and I will know better. @MFP1337 You need to see things in context. A card might be great for it's £100 price range, but you can probably bet that a £400 one is going to kick it's ass all over the place. Does that mean the £100 card is crap? Who cares what the next guy has or how your card performs compared to the cards in the higher price ranges. The main thing is that the card you paid for is performing well for your needs.

@AnimaxRex nah the bottleneck must be so big that it cant hold up with the card. If you buy the quad you will be good. Other things to check, are the temperatures, see if the psu has the correct amount of wattage. Check if ur pci-e slot is x16 and not x8.

I have been using 2 Sapphire 5770's in Crossfire for about 2 months now, and i have been extremely impressed! On my i7 930 my 3dMark06 scores are close to 27,000, and in Crysis I avg right at 60fps. I really want to upgrade to a 5850 or 5870, then of course a 2nd one, but it is very hard to justify that cost, when i'm getting such good performance out of my 2 5770's that I got for $126 each!

@frazel999 - As an owner of 2 4870's and 6 5770's, I can tell you that 2 5770's perform almost identical to 2 4870's when both are crossfired. The main reason I went with the 2 5770's in my main rig over the 2 4870's, was increased power efficiency and of course DX11.

@Snapscape not to ruin it but it actually isnt, if you compare it to the 5970. it actually comes real close and since a 5970 is actually 2 5850s in 1 card, while the gtx 480 just has 1 chipset. so if you were to bring it to the 5970's "level" and have 2 chipsets then in sli it would dominate the 5970s. (i am actually a big ati fan but facts are facts)

It's a shame you're disabling the comments for YouTube. Personally I'd just shut off the notifications and let everyone say whatever. I'd then disable the non-friend comments on my channel. It's pretty simple. I'm not a fan of tedious web browsing and your website just doesn't offer enough on it's own. The performance is almost the same with a slightly cheaper card (ATI) vs. more money card (GEFORCE) and you save energy that adds up. you can run the card 10x longer on idle then full power and that is only 1/10 of your bill you would need to run it on idle for 100 hours(4 days) to spend $.08 - .10 just on your card. @0sebastiank0 - NOT TRUE! Any Ati card in the same series can be Crossfired with any other ATI card in the same series! Also, the 5970 is really a dual 5870 on the same card, so yes you can Crossfire them as well! 5970x5870=TriFire, 5970x5870x5870=QuadFire

@450hp202turbo - yes actually you can! In order to Crossfire, the cards have to be in the same line! so any 5800 series cards can be Crossfired with any other 5800 series. However, the higher card will auto down clock to the lower cards speeds! This is also true with any ATI cards in the same series! Example, you can Crossfire a 4830 x 4870, ect.....

I was talking in terms of being able to run games like crysis warhead at the same FPS rate not getting as high benchmark scores. Personally, I couldn't care less about benchmark scores only which setup runs games at an average 60fps or above.

actually this game in my oppinion came before its time .... there is not 1 computer on earth that will run crysis on 2560x1600 with full AA at 60fps ... its rather the game is shitley optimized or it is a very hard game to run ... so anyone should be suprized if there pc can run crysis at decent detail

It was my understanding that the intel i7-920 was Multiplier locked at x 20.0, However in your video it shows x 21.0? Wudup? what cooling are you using? also from the sounds of it, I can hear your video card, you've not got it installed correctly, that or you're fan is just fucked up. my fan sounds like that when i turn it on, but then it goes quiet..
